In The Real Salt Road
What are a donkey, a salt merchant, and some dice doing on the doorstep of an old inn? It may sound like the beginning of a joke, but it's far more interesting than that. A marvelous story unfolded this past weekend, and we would love to share it with you.
A new, exciting Teetotum game is in the works, as the amazing people from Yamochori Project asked us to create a game that will simulate the life and use of an old mountain trail, and we've been working on it for several months. The Salt Road, as it used to be called, starts near the edge of lake Trichonida, goes through the Panetoliko mountain, and ends in Prousos and Karpenisi. We were thrilled by the idea and have been working tirelessly for the past three months. What we came up with exceeded our expectations. However, as always, we wanted to be sure, so we decided to test the game with the people who brought us the idea in the first place. People who know more about the real story of the Salt Road.
Preparations were made, and we were all able to gather at the actual starting point of the Salt Road, the so-called Tsouni Inn. About a hundred years ago, it was a place where people traveled to find merchants and carriers to buy or transfer goods. It was a place filled with merchants, wanderers, pilgrims, villagers, and all kinds of travelers. There, they all had the chance to find what they needed: some looking for assistance, and some looking to assist for a price. It was there that we also had the chance to playtest the alpha version of the game inside the old store that still exists today. I tell you, it was an unbelievable experience.
The people of the village found that the game really captures the feeling of an older era. They also said that the game encompasses all aspects of Salt Road history. It involves hard trading decisions, bargaining to get the most out of a deal, and merchant training to gain experience and better deals. This made us happy and validated our belief that this game is an exciting project with many thrills to offer. We will soon have more to share, so stay tuned to our blog to learn more about this truly unique collaboration.
