Five Cultures, One Evening of Connection
August 3, 2026A Game Desing Workshop at LUDO
Games are often experienced as finished products, carefully packaged and ready to be played. What is less visible is the creative journey behind them - the countless ideas, prototypes, tests, failures, and discoveries that gradually shape a game into something meaningful and enjoyable. One of the most exciting ways to explore this process is through interactive workshops, where participants do not simply listen to theory but actively engage with the same design challenges that game creators face every day. Through discussion, experimentation, and hands-on activities, game design becomes a shared experience rather than a hidden craft.
This is exactly the opportunity we had during our presentation as Teetotum Game Studios at the LUDO project, organized by Yamochori. Bringing together people from different backgrounds and cultures, the event created the perfect environment for exchanging ideas around games, creativity, and participation. We were delighted to share our own journey as game designers, discussing how concepts evolve into playable experiences and how collaboration plays a crucial role throughout the development process. More importantly, it gave us the chance to learn from the participants' perspectives and see how different people approach the same design challenges.
During the workshop, we explored some of the fundamental principles that guide our design process. We talked about the importance of the learning and fun curve, ensuring that players gradually understand a game while continuously discovering new and engaging experiences. We also introduced concepts such as the Rule of 3/4, which helps structure choices and decision-making without overwhelming players, and the delicate balance that every game requires between challenge, strategy, and accessibility. These frameworks are not strict formulas but practical tools that help transform ideas into experiences that players can enjoy and revisit.
As the presentation came to an end, the discussion was only beginning. Questions, curiosities, and fresh ideas quickly found their way onto the table, and before long, participants were brainstorming mechanics, themes, and entirely new game concepts together. What started as a workshop evolved into a collaborative design session where everyone contributed something unique. New games began to take shape, conversations continued long after the scheduled program, and creativity flowed freely. But that is a story for another time...
